AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE)

Summary

This AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE) position is located in an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA) and is part of the CA AASF Stockton.

Duties

THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE/PERMANENT/TEMPORARY POSITION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR.

  • Indefinite Positions: Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered.
  • Temporary Positions: Selectee may be non-competitively extended up to 4 years if/when funding becomes available in accordance with CNG FPH 001.
  • The primary purpose of the AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE), WG-8852-5/8/10, is responsible for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, systems, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
  • May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.

Conditions of Employment

  • CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Compatible Military Assignment and Grade are required.
  • May be required to successfully complete a one or two year trial period.
  • Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards.
  • Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required.

Qualifications

General Experience: Possess experience or training that has provided the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Priority Areas of Consideration:

  • AREA I = Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment.
  • AREA II = Current California National Guard members.
  • AREA III = Current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Air Force/Army Reserve or Air Force/Army Active Duty.

Military Grades: E-1 through E-7

  • WG-8852-05 (Trainee): At least 6 months experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
  • WG-8852-08 (Trainee): At least 12 months experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance; following detailed instructions in making routine, recurring repairs and modifications.
  • WG-8852-10: At least 18 months specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance; instructing lower graded mechanics.

TRAINEE POSITION: Applicants not meeting full qualifications for the WG-10 position may be considered for WG-05 or WG-08 trainee, if qualified. If appointed as trainee, the selectee may be non-competitively promoted to WG-08 and WG-10 upon meeting full qualifications and recommendations of supervisor.

Education

N/A. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.

Additional Information

As a condition of employment, new appointees are required to serve a trial period (one or two years subject to appointment type and veteran's preference).
