AIRCRAFT MECHANIC

Summary

This position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, PD# D0483000, part of the Nevada Army National Guard. This position is located in an Army Aviation Support Facility or Army Aviation Flight Activity with responsibility for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, systems, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.

Duties

  • Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft, including pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections, and special inspections such as fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and power systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces. Remove components and assemblies, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble repaired items into the aircraft.
  • Install, align, and make needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, and hydraulic systems. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launch and recover assigned and transient aircraft.
  • May be required to perform additional duties such as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, and snow removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. Compatible Military Assignment: ENLISTED E1 - E6; Compatible MOS: 15U.

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Must maintain local network access IAW AR 25-2.
  • Wear the uniform appropriate for the members' grade and component of the armed forces.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (Lautenberg Amendment) of the Gun Control Act.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; and the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls.

Education

There is no specific education requirement for this position. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support Training/Educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.

  • TERM POSITIONS: "Temporary-Not to Exceed" (TEMP) and "Temporary-Indefinite" (INDEFINITE) are TERM positions limited to 4 years maximum.
  • CONVERSION: Positions advertised as TEMP or INDEFINITE may be non-competitively converted to INDEFINITE or PERMANENT at a future date contingent upon available funding.
  • RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE: May be available, if eligible, subject to funding and TAG-NV approval.
  • PCS funding is NOT authorized.
