Duties
As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-5/8/10, duties include:
- Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnose and identify problem areas and determine the extent of repairs required. Remove components and assemblies, repair or replace defective parts and components, and reassemble repaired items into the aircraft. Install, align, and make needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting Specialists as required. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launch and recover assigned and transient aircraft; perform inspections prior to takeoff, inspecting for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leaks, cut lines, tires, and loose panels.
- May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- Military membership in the Nebraska National Guard is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Obtain/maintain the level of security clearance/background check required.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Open areas of consideration: Area 1 and 2.
- AREA 1: Current permanent and indefinite technicians of the Nebraska Army or Air National Guard; and current Title 5 employees of the Nebraska Military Department who are military members of the Nebraska National Guard.
- AREA 2: All Drill Status/M-Day members and temporary technicians of the Nebraska Air or Army National Guard.
- AREA 3: Current military service members who are willing and eligible to become members of the Nebraska Air or Army National Guard.
- AREA 4: All qualified candidates eligible and willing to become a member of the Nebraska Air or Army National Guard prior to the effective date of hire.
Military requirements: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: Maximum E6; Minimum E1. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. Compatibility requirements must be met prior to appointment; selectee has 24 months to become qualified in a compatible military assignment.
Security clearance/background check: Employees must obtain the appropriate background investigation and maintain the level of security clearance assigned to their work. Failure to obtain, within one year of appointment, and maintain the required clearance may result in a job offer being rescinded or separation from employment. General experience: Experience or training that has provided the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications on the type of aircraft flown by the AASF. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
Specialized experience:
- WG-05: At least 6 months use of common hand tools making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience demonstrating the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
- WG-08: At least 18 months of specialized experience in use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance; following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications (e.g., jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems).
- WG-10: At least 24 months of specialized experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance; ability to instruct lower-graded mechanics, military, and other personnel.
