Clinical Psychologist

Summary

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will NOT be accepted through this flyer. Position is designated as a primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage.

Duties

  • Utilize assessment instruments and clinical skills to provide diagnostic evaluations of inmates.
  • Assess mental status, motivation, concerns, etc. to identify areas needing resolution for successful adaptation and treatment to occur.
  • Apply clinical psychology skills for disturbed inmates to assess and resolve complex social and emotional problems.
  • Provide direct psychological services, including individual, group counseling, emergency, and on-call services.
  • Advise and consult with all levels of professional staff concerning psychological characteristics and behavior changes of inmates.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination. A Secret security clearance is required.
  • Selectees will be required to consent to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required and an annual physical thereafter.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position requires a current, active Basic Life Support (BLS) from the AHA CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Course or equivalent.
  • May require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying schedules.
  • Requires screening for tuberculosis upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation.
  • This position is designated as a Primary LEO with frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates.
  • The maximum entry age for LEO retirement positions is 37 years old (may be waived under certain circumstances). Mandatory retirement at age 57 with 20 years of LEO service.
  • All Army Corrections Command employees are required to take 40 hours of training annually.
  • Subject to the Prison Rape Elimination Act hiring restrictions.
  • TDY or business travel requirement up to 25% of the time.
  • Applicants must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. Credentialing includes a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and a 1-year pre-doctoral internship from an APA-accredited university or professional school.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

Basic Requirement: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting psycho-diagnostic assessments, providing crisis interventions, and providing psychotherapy for an inmate or adult population (equivalent to GS-12). No substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure Requirement: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as a doctoral level psychologist offered by a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR CLINICAL LICENSE.

This position has been designated as primary/rigorous and is eligible for LEO retirement coverage. Maximum entry age 37; mandatory retirement at 57 with 20 years of LEO service.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If using education completed in foreign colleges or universities, you must show the credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
