Summary

This position is located at Grant Hall, Directorate of Cadet Activities, U.S. Military Academy at West Point. This position is Weather Essential. Incentives will not be paid.

Clarification from the agency: United States (U.S.) Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Duties

  • Sets up cafeteria lines, steam-tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages; replenishes as necessary.
  • Breaks down and cleans tables and area when meal is finished and returns dishes and food to the kitchen area.
  • Assembles or tosses fresh fruit and green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portions into standard serving sizes. Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
  • Operates, breaks down and cleans all equipment assigned to the area for food preparation. Cleans kitchen equipment such as worktables, sinks and refrigerators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment and 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Must be willing to accept a varying or rotating shift to include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Medical examination is required.
  • This position is dual compensation exempt; all GS and NAF employees, whether full time or part time, are eligible to apply.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less) and should clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. A qualified candidate must possess the ability to understand and follow simple instructions and be able to use hand tools for cleaning and operating simple machines.

Skill and Knowledge: Must have skill and knowledge to perform tasks involving several procedures and be able to concentrate despite interruptions and distractions. A working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination is required. Must know basic food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures; be able to read and understand written material; and have knowledge of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals) to determine portions and servings.

Additional Information

  • Initial Cut-Off Date: Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 (applications must be received by 11:59 PM EST). Applications received by the Initial Cut-Off Date may be referred to the Selecting Official prior to the closing date, with subsequent referrals every two weeks thereafter.
  • Area of Consideration: US Citizens and Non-Citizens residing within a 50-mile radius of West Point, NY. Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included.

  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system; FWS employees earn overtime pay and may receive Sunday premium pay and night differential. Non-foreign overseas allowances, COLA, and differentials will not be paid.

  • Most individuals will be brought in at the Step 1 rate of pay ($18.40 per hour). NAF pay setting rules apply.
