Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer
Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation using the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. These military technician positions are with the 88th Readiness Division, Equipment Concentration Site (ECS) 33, located at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Duties
- Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and power generation equipment.
- Repair and replace components of the cooling, braking, exhaust, power train, or hydraulic systems on combat, tactical, automotive, and powered support equipment.
- Remove, adjust, or replace defective or worn parts and components.
- Perform operational inspections and ensure vehicles are properly serviced and repaired.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and services.
- Perform minor body work.
- Assist higher graded repairers with more complex repairs such as removing, repairing or replacing major components (engines, transmissions, differentials, steering boxes, and fuel injection pumps).
- Operate motor vehicles to check work.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires active membership as a Soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).
- This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
- This position requires a Class A CDL within 180 days of employment.
- This position requires a medical examination prior to employment.
Qualifications
Standing register (open continuous recruitment): applications are reviewed on the final day of each month (approx. every 30 days). Packages received after a cutoff are evaluated at a future cutoff based on agency needs. Application packages must be complete at the time referral certificates are issued.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must demonstrate through your written application materials that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. Applicants must document experience or show the ability to: perform preventive maintenance checks and services; conduct basic operational inspections to ensure vehicles are properly serviced; and operate equipment to check work. Failure to meet this screen-out element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching, including work on top of, under, or in tight compartments in cramped and awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries items up to 40 pounds, with similar effort pushing, pulling, and positioning assemblies and equipment; occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance or lifting devices (jacks, hoists, cranes). Work is sometimes performed from ladders or platforms at varying heights.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently standing on hard surfaces for long periods. Exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, oils, vehicle exhaust fumes, and some inclement weather (wind, rain). Subject to burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, and strains.
