Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer
Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a military technician position with the 99th Readiness Division, Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) 120 located in Wilkes Barre, PA.
This position may offer a $5,000 recruitment bonus (see Additional Information section).

Duties
- Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of construction, industrial, combat, tactical and power generation equipment.
- Repair and replace components of the cooling, braking, exhaust, power train, or hydraulic systems on combat and tactical, automotive, and powered support equipment.
- Remove, adjust or replace defective or worn parts and components.
- Perform operational inspections and ensure vehicles are properly serviced and repaired; perform preventative maintenance checks and services; and perform minor body work.
- Assist higher graded repairers in the performance of more complex repairs such as removing, repairing or replacing major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, steering boxes, and fuel injection pumps.
- Operate motor vehicles to check work.

Qualifications
Position is announced as a standing register (open continuous recruitment): The first cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be 01-AUG-2026 at 11:59 PM. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: maintenance, repairs, and replacements to component parts of heavy mobile equipment; perform preventive maintenance checks and services; conduct basic operational inspections to ensure the vehicles are properly serviced; and operate equipment to check work. Failure to meet this screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top of, under, or in tight compartments of equipment in cramped and awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning part assemblies and equipment. Occasionally lifts heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Work is sometimes performed from ladders or work platforms at varying heights.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside. The incumbent must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, oils, and vehicle exhaust fumes, and to some inclement weather such as wind and rain. Subject to burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, and strains.

- New Army Reserve Military Technicians may be authorized moving expenses to their first official duty station. To be eligible, you must be a newly appointed Federal civilian employee or have a minimum of a 3-day break in service from previous Federal civilian employment.
- This position may offer a $5,000 recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed. You are considered newly appointed if this is your first appointment as a Federal Government civilian employee or if you have a minimum of a 90 day break in service from a previous Federal civilian position (with limited exceptions for time-limited or non-permanent prior appointments). The bonus is paid in one lump sum after you enter on duty and requires a one year service obligation to the Army Reserve Military Technician Program; failure to serve the specified period may require repayment.
