MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32)
Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0903000, and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard.
Duties
As a MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32), WG-6907-6, you will oversee one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility.
- Check stock numbers and part numbers in supply catalogs to adequately identify property.
- Identify, examine, classify, accept, and dispose of a wide variety of materials and property including electronic equipment, aircraft and automotive components and assemblies.
- Operate large warehouse perimeter vehicles such as cargo tractors, stake trucks, mobile cranes, and forklifts ranging in size up to 10,000 lbs.
- Determine physical condition and serviceability of material and property.
- Prepare items for processing, utilizing appropriate Standard Army Management Information System (STAMIS) such as computer terminal and bar code reader to read, store, track and prepare material documentation.
- Prepare inventory and production reports; screen and identify shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies; direct shipments to shipping or storage areas.
- Store hazardous materials, requiring knowledge of specialized handling, storing, and safety procedures.
- Assist in the development of plans for storage and arrangement of stock to determine warehouse configuration, setup, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow.
- Serve as the senior member of a warehouse project team involved in a special project such as relocating a major commodity or equipment group or setting up a new commodity group area.
- Advise supervisor about inconsistent shipment information, defective material or property, and damage from shipping; route items to maintenance activity for technical inspections when defects are discovered.
- Perform classification inspections for material within range of authority; ensure formal accountability when receiving, storing or issuing.
Conditions of Employment

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

- May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (Lautenberg Amendment) of the Gun Control Act.
- Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Qualifications
AREAS OF CONSIDERATION (Title 32 Excepted Service, 32 U.S. Code § 709), in sequence:
- All excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
- All current Federal Employees.
- All Federal re-employment eligible.
- Applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
- U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted, not to exceed rank of SFC.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (WG-06): MUST possess specialized experience or training in receiving, packaging, and preparation for shipment; compiling reports, overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques; setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, and product turnover.
Education
No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this occupational series and grade. You must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone.
Additional Information
If you are a male applicant born after 12/31/1959 and required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, you must be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.
How You Will Be Evaluated
