Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) NF-01

Summary

This position is located at Fort Lee, VA - MWR Battle Drive Pool. This is an open continuous announcement to provide a ready pool of available applicants as needed. Applicants will be referred as vacancies occur.

Incentives and Bonuses: Incentives will not be paid.

Duties

  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Responsible for lifeguarding guests. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training. Assists with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide. Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
  • Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
  • Warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs.
  • Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required. Participates in required training (on-the-job training, emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations). Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position; all GS and NAF employees whether fulltime or part time are eligible to apply.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have current health assessment documenting good physical health, free from communicable disease IAW current Army Policy.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
  • In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (20/40 or better, with glasses/contacts or uncorrected) while on duty.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or special recreational events. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labor Law.
  • All required certifications must be kept current.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less) and should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.

A qualified candidate must possess and maintain the following certifications:

  • Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent, i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS).
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

Additional Information

Area of Consideration: This job is open to candidates who reside within a 30-mile radius of Fort Lee. (Military Spouses moving to the area within 30 days from the closing date and Involuntarily Separated Military (ISM) members claiming ISM Preference are included in this area of consideration.)

Allowances and Differentials: This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, COLA, and differentials will not be paid.
