Recreation Assistant (Water Safety Instructor) NF-02
Summary
This position is located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Duties
- Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled at the assigned aquatics facility.
- Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher levels of swimming according to their skills.
- Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, including front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Teaches students from age groups of infant through adults.
- Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students when appropriate. Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment

- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
- Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card, and may be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
- Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
- Incumbent must be able to lift 45 lbs.
- A physical may be required.
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess work experience related to the duties described above and the following certificates (certificates issued by American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable; must be uploaded with your Documents when submitting your application to receive credit):
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- First Aid Certification
Highly desirable: possession of a Lifeguard Certification.
Education
This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Allowances and Differentials: This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, COLA, and differentials will not be paid.
