Summary

This position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center Pool, Honolulu Hawaii, on the Island of Oahu. Incentives will not be paid.

Duties

  • Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, including front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
  • Teaches students from age groups of infant through adults. Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills when appropriate to level of instruction.
  • Works with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.
  • Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher levels of swimming according to their skills.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, including a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • May be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Scheduled hours will vary; incumbent must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays and special events.
  • May be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children. All required certifications must be kept current.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less) and should clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. A qualified candidate must possess work experience related to the duties described above and the following certificates:

  • Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • First Aid Certification

Certificates issued by American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable. Possession of a Lifeguard Certification is highly desirable.

Additional Information

  • Area of Consideration: LOCAL, Island of Oahu. Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included. This is a Standing Register; eligible applicants will be referred to management upon request.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized.
  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, COLA, and differentials will not be paid.
  • Army PAY SETTING rules/requirements apply. This position is not entitled to 8.64% COLA (Island of Oahu).
