SECURITY GUARD - TITLE 32
Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is for a Security Guard, Position Description Number D1007000, located at Clay National Guard Center, Marietta, GA.
This is a full-time, Excepted Temporary Indefinite, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open to current members of the Army National Guard.
Duties
As a Security Guard, GS-0085-05, you will:
- Control access, direct traffic, and check identification of persons entering and leaving Federal or State Military Reservation property from assigned areas throughout the state. Detect and report suspicious activity and matters involving the security and safety of personnel or protection of property. May direct traffic, maintain roadblocks, and block off areas and parking lots for special occasions or traffic control. Responsible for maintenance of physical security, access control, protection of life and property, and crime prevention actions within the jurisdiction of the National Guard.
- Independently, or with other physical security personnel, perform assigned tasks on fixed post, foot patrol, or special physical patrol, including standing fixed posts (gates); detention/apprehension of persons attempting unauthorized entry; traffic control; protecting private and public property; observing and reporting security violations; maintaining radio communications; performing police and fire dispatch duties; reporting events to the supervisor; preparing written security violation reports; and remaining at post until properly relieved.
- Upon notification, respond to emergency recall of security personnel within a specified time. Attend and participate in scheduled training and Watch briefings. Provide sworn testimony in Federal, State or Military courts as a witness. Use and maintain physical security equipment (radios, firearms, batons, Kevlar helmets, equipment belts, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance (Secret) within one year of appointment.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (Lautenberg Amendment) of the Gun Control Act.
- Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required.
- If the duties require the candidate to bear firearms, he/she must be qualified in accordance with the appropriate military regulation.
Qualifications

Military Grades: Rank Immaterial. Compatible Military Assignments: MOS 31-Series.
General Experience: Candidate must possess experience, training, or education which indicates the ability to follow directions, and to read and understand a variety of instructions, regulations and procedures.
Specialized Experience: Candidate must have six (6) months specialized experience, education, or training protecting physical property, plans, inventions, and research material which are critical in nature from sabotage, espionage and armed intrusion; enforcing stringent regulations, maintaining order, questioning trespassers, answering inquiries and aiding persons in distress.
Education
Substitution of Education for specialized experience: High School graduate or the equivalent may be substituted for three months of specialized experience. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Additional Information
If you are a male applicant born after 12/31/1959 and required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, you must be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
How You Will Be Evaluated
