Sports Specialist (CYS) NF-03

Summary

This position is located at SHAPE, Belgium.

Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee: CYS Regular and FLEX employees (working a minimum of 15 hours per week) receive a 100% childcare fee discount for the first child and a 25% discount for second and subsequent children.

Duties

  • Serves as a sports specialist/clinician in a Child and Youth Services (CYS) program, with responsibility for providing support and assistance to the CYS Sports and Fitness Director and installation volunteer sports coaches.
  • Models appropriate behaviors and techniques and helps coaches in creating appropriate environments; selecting materials and equipment; and planning meaningful practices that support the required sport season.
  • Conducts practice and game visits as required for the purpose of providing support and assistance.
  • Helps inspect sports facilities/programs to ensure safety compliance. Recommends purchase of equipment required to maintain proper safety compliance. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Provides oversight and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army, and local policies, guidance, and standards. Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2, to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must complete a health assessment including all required immunizations.
  • Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must either currently possess or have the ability to obtain a National Association of Youth Sports Clinician Certification within six months of employment.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less) and should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.

A qualified candidate must possess a bachelor's degree or higher in physical education.

OR all of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level:

  1. Experience managing or assisting in the delivery of a sports or physical education program which included both individual and team sports.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the skills and techniques needed for various sports.
  3. Experience coaching or working with coaches to apply techniques and required skills/fundamentals for various sports.

Highly Preferred / Best Qualified: Experience working in a sports program specifically for children or youth; or at least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (e.g., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology).

Education

Proof of education is required at the time of application, if applicable. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Allowances and Differentials: This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, COLA, and differentials will not be paid. Employment overseas provides additional benefits and entitlements. Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program.
