SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER

Duties
- Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles, including self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, generators, tanks, trucks, semi trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment.
- Troubleshoots, repairs and overhauls major systems including internal combustion engines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems and controls.
- Makes repairs to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators, generators/alternators, and brake cylinders. Performs work in accordance with modification work orders, technical manuals, lubrication orders, maintenance bulletins, regulations or management policies.
- Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures using test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools; utilizes embedded diagnostics and OEM system analyzers.
- Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems; makes repairs, overhaul, or modifications; reassembles, adjusts, tests, and reinstalls.
- May perform fuel injection equipment repair, overhaul, rebuild, and calibration using complex test and calibration equipment.
- Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees; may provide Field and limited Sustainment maintenance at unit locations as part of a "contact team"; recovers and evacuates inoperable vehicles.
- Conducts readiness and repair inspections; performs operational inspections and preventive maintenance; instructs operator/crew in equipment maintenance.
- May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records. Performs other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- Alaska Army National Guard membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- U.S. Citizenship and Secret Clearance is required.
- Bargaining Unit: Bargaining.
- May require regular Occupational Health exams and/or medical standards being met.
- APPOINTMENT FACTORS: Excepted/Enlisted in the Alaska Army National Guard.
- MILITARY GRADE REQUIREMENT: Minimum military grade is Private (PVT/E-1); maximum is Sergeant First Class (SFC/E-7).
- Requires operation of motor vehicles; candidates must have a valid state driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (Lautenberg Amendment) of the Gun Control Act.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE is experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and use common tools and equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience directly related to the position which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties.
- WG-08: At least 12 months of experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs; removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories; basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory; reading and interpreting parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- WG-10: At least 18 months of experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems; thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment; applying independent judgment to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems; testing, inspecting, and evaluating work performed.
Resume must have complete dates and hours worked per week for each occurrence of both civilian and military employment. Use of year only will result in disqualification.
Education
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.

OPEN-TILL-FILLED: This is an Open-Till-Filled (OTF) announcement. The closing dates will occur every 30 days from the opening date. Every 30 days, a certificate of eligible applicants will be issued to the selecting supervisor until the position is filled.

How You Will Be Evaluated
